While included accessories are nice, don’t get too hung up on the various Amazon bundles competing for your purchase. It’s generally more cost effective to make separate purchases. By purchasing accessories separately you can control for the quality of the accessory by purchasing from a reputable manufacturer. Typically Amazon sellers throw in cheap, off brand accessories so that they can markup the total cost of the bundle and net a higher profit at your expense.

For the Hobbyist pick, $250 might seem like a lot for an entry level mic, but boom mics that actually are worth your time, your money, and are not camera-mounted microphones are inherently more expensive than other microphone categories. This is reflected in the contexts in which they are more likely to be used i.e. in a studio, on set, on a production where more money is flowing. If this price range of this category scares you off, consider starting with camera-mounted microphones.

Pricing Tier Key

The Hobbyist: Entry-level gear for video shooters to improve their skills without a large investment.

The Independent: Prosumer gear designed for serious creators that balance performance and real-world budgets.

The Industry Pro: High-end gear for professionals that meets the demands of industry-tier production environments.

The Hobbyist

This mic is actually quite good audio quality for the price. Corin noted that he was especially surprised with the performance in the 3.10 side-by-side comparison. Its small size makes it easy to mount on cameras or use on a boom pole. It operates on phantom power but also supports a battery. It's a great choice for indie filmmakers and prosumers who need a reliable and high-quality microphone.
